Erin Mills Soccer Striker Almamy Bangoura Commits to StFX University
ANTIGONISH, NS – StFX X-Men soccer coach, Graham Kennedy, has landed another talented attacking player. Almamy Bangoura of Mississauga, ON, has just signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent for the 2020-21 season.
Bangoura is a 5'10" striker out of Gaetan-Gervais Secondary School in Oakville, ON and plays his club soccer with Erin Mills Soccer Club in the Ontario Soccer League.
"Almamy has some special qualities," says Erin Mills technical director, Alex Szczotka. "He can play beyond the university level if he keeps working. He gives you everything when he plays."
Erin Mills U17 coach Raphael Bell is also full of praise for Bangoura. "The kid has so much heart and the kind of personality you want in a striker."
Bangoura was selected MVP of the prestigious Umbro Top-Rated Showcase in 2019 and quickly captured Kennedy's eye. "Almamy is very explosive, and he can protect the ball when he gets it. He can take a half-chance and turn it into something all by himself – a critical quality for a striker."
Bangoura, who has been on overseas trials with professional clubs in Portugal, is keen to join the X-Men in August. "I can't wait to get started," commented Bangoura, "I had a great recruiting trip, and the guys on the team were fantastic to be around."
Bangoura plans to study in the Bachelor of Arts Development Studies Program at StFX and joins the X-Men for pre-season training in August.
