Becoming A Match Official
Match Official Kick Off Meeting (In-Person)
TIME: May 10, 2026, 1:30PM - 4:00PM
LOCATION: Erin Mills Soccer Club (3135 Unity Dr Unit 4, Mississauga, ON L5L 4L4)
Annual Match Official Kick Off Meeting is MANDATORY

Spring Clinics
The Club focus on Match Official retention is supported by a very strict policy against referee abuse, either verbal or physical by players, coaches and the parent membership. The Match Official Development Program is overseen by the Club Head Referee.
Each spring the Club hosts two Match Official clinics – one for small sided games and one entry level. New Match Official graduates are placed in the resource pool. A pool of not more than 100 Match Officials is maintained to ensure that all have, at least, one opportunity a week to officiate.

Small-Sided Referee Course (Hybrid)
The Small Sided Referee Course is for those who would like to become an accredited match official on 7v7 games and are 12 years of age (by March 31st of the current year) or older. Successful graduates are automatically registered with Ontario Soccer and do not have to register again until the following year.
To register, create an EMSC PowerUp account, where you can paid online. Once payment is received, our Head Referee Joe will reach out to give you code to register on Ref Centre.

Entry Level Referee Course (Hybrid)
The Entry Level Referee Course is for those who would like to become an accredited match official for 9v9 and 11v11 games and are 14 years of age (by March 31st of the current year) and older. Successful graduates are automatically registered with Ontario Soccer and do not have to register again until the following year.

Small-Sided: All Law Review; Entry Level: Laws 11&12
Pass the exam
Attend a Practical Session (in-person)

MATCH OFFICIAL DEVELOPMENT
The Club Match Official Development Program provides ongoing mentorship and encouragement to participants to continue with their certification advancement and higher level participation at the provincial and national levels. The program is determined to keep Match Officials active, growing personally, and gaining essential experience and confidence for the future.
